Re-positive RT-PCR among recovered patients

In a small sample of 13 recovered patients, 9 were tested positive for COVID-19 virus around 29 days (range 22-54 days) subsequent to the onset of their symptoms and a median of 18 (15 to 48 days) days subsequent to full resolution of their symptoms. Even though this sample is really small, the result from RT-PCR test for the diagnosis of COVID-19 further proves the low sensitivity of the test. The high re-positive rate of RT-PCR tests could be due to the fact that it cannot distinguish between intact whole virus and viral RNA. A positive result from the test does not prove active infection.
