Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders are recognized through abnormalities occurring within at least one of five domains. These domains include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking (speech), grossly disorganized or abnormal motor behavior (including catatonia), and negative symptoms.

Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders

The DSM-5-TR separates Schizophrenia and Other Psychotic Disorders into the following specific disorders and groups:

- Schizotypal (Personality Disorder)
- Delusional Disorder
- Brief Psychotic Disorder
- Schizophreniform Disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Schizoaffective Disorder
- Substance/Medication-Induced Psychotic Disorder
- Psychotic Disorder Due to Another Medical Condition
- Catatonia*
- Other Specified Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorder
- Unspecified Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorder

Schizophrenia is recognized as a cause of Cotard's Syndrome, and Cotard's Syndrome is recognized as a symptom of schizophrenia. Less than 1% of those with schizophrenia get diagnosed with Cotard's Syndrome. Both schizophrenia and Cotard's Syndrome come with similar symptoms, especially nihilistic delusions and ideas.
