Relation

Relation of Knowledge Tracing Machines to Item Response Theory (IRT)

When the embedding dimension is d=0d = 0 (without embeddings), and the features consist only of users and items represented as one-hot encodings, the Knowledge Tracing Machine (KTM) expression becomes:

logp(x)1p(x)=μ+wi+wn+j=θidi\log \frac{p(x)}{1 - p(x)} = \mu + w_i + w_{n+j} = \theta_i - d_i

Under these conditions, the KTM simplifies to the Rasch Model, which is the 1-Parameter Logistic (1-PL) Item Response Theory (IRT) model.
