Concept

Result Interpretation - Time Correlation (TOL task)

As the total time used to solve the TOL problems decreased, so did activations in orbitofrontal regions (BA 10, 14, and 25 on the left). These regions are associated with cognitive processes like guessing, decision making, and use of feedback. A decrease in activation suggests that solving TOL problems became easier with practice, and thus participants were less reliant on these cognitive processes. Greater activations were found at the end rather than the beginning of the learning process in the left premotor cortex (BA 6). This area is associated with planning motor movements.
