Results for Question 2 in Gender Gap Study- Changing Reasons for Men

For the second research question (why students chose to major in computer science and what changes there were or not over time regarding said reasons), results indicated, for men regarding reasons that changed over time:

  • factors that increasingly indicated less likelihood of men joining the computer science major: applying to more colleges than other students, trying to earn a doctorate, considering changing their major, public or religious affiliated colleges
  • men interested in philosophy or the benefits of a college degree (i.e. higher paying job) used to be less likely to join computer science but these factors have become less predictive of that over time
