Risk Factors for Suicide in Midlife Crisis

There are many life events happening in middle-age that can be risk factors of suicide:

  1. Unemployment and Job Loss: this adds burden on middle-aged adults due to financial pressure of supporting the family household. Also, unemployment is prevalent in middle-aged adults for company trying to recruit younger adults.

  2. Marital Status and Divorce: loneliness and social disconnection are major risk factors for suicide. Also divorce is a major life event that contributed to enormous change and a failure of adjustment also contributes to increase risk of depression.

  3. Education: low educational attainment leads to higher vulnerability in suicide especially for adults.
