Robbers Cave Experiment
In a study by Sherif et al. (1961), researchers observed that prejudice between two rival groups of boys at a summer camp was significantly reduced when they were required to cooperate on tasks to achieve a common, or superordinate, goal. This experiment provided strong evidence for the effectiveness of shared objectives in resolving intergroup conflict.
