Robert C. Allen

Robert C. Allen is an economic historian recognized for his research into the origins of the Industrial Revolution in Britain. In his works, including The British Industrial Revolution in Global Perspective (2008) and Global Economic History: A Very Short Introduction (2011), he posits that Britain's distinct price structure was a primary driver of innovation. Specifically, he argues that the combination of high labor costs relative to inexpensive energy and capital created powerful economic incentives for mechanization, such as in the textile industry.
