Experimental research is a method that involves a tremendous amount of control over variables of interest. It utilizes randomized assignment of participants to conditions and systematic manipulation of an independent variable to observe its effects on a measured dependent variable, with the objective of drawing causal inferences.

By utilizing this strategy, researchers can achieve two fundamental scientific goals: describing the strength and direction of the relationship between the variables, and predicting scores on one variable based on the other using a statistical technique called regression.
