Concept

Salmonellosis: Virulence Factors

When ingested, the bacteria proliferates within intestines and enter into epithelial mucosal cells through M cells, where further growth occurs. This stimulates inflammatory processes and fluid hypersecretion. The bacteria can also enter into the bloodstream and lymphatic system as well as cause intoxication by releasing enterotoxins.
