Sari al-Saqati's Acquisition of Tohfeh and the Theme of Spiritual Redemption in Section 64 of Haft Awrang

In Section 64 of the Haft Awrang (Silsilat al-Dhahab), Jami depicts the meeting between Sheikh Sari al-Saqati and the distressed merchant who owned Tohfeh. Upon seeing the Sheikh, the merchant's sorrow is alleviated, hoping the Sheikh's spiritual influence will ease his hardships. Recognizing Tohfeh's elevated spiritual state, Sheikh Sari expresses that he is unworthy of her, yet he offers to buy her from the merchant. This transaction symbolizes the transition of the divine seeker (Tohfeh) from mundane captivity and worldly ownership to spiritual guardianship and ultimate liberation, highlighting the themes of divine love, selfless devotion, and spiritual redemption.
