Suffering from an intense spiritual constriction (qabd) that prevents him from finding pleasure in his prayers, the Sheikh wanders through Baghdad's cemeteries and eventually visits a hospital (bimaristan) seeking a remedy. There, he encounters Tohfeh, a beautiful enslaved woman in chains who is weeping. This meeting immediately resolves his spiritual distress, initiating a profound spiritual dialogue and establishing Tohfeh as a key figure of divine love and spiritual refinement.
