In Chapter 8, Poem 28 of Mokhtar Nameh, Attar posits that true affirmation of faith is achieved only through the recognition of one's own non-existence. He argues that claiming independent existence is a form of spiritual denial (infidelity) because it asserts an ego separate from the Divine. Consequently, a believer who has not experienced the scent of self-annihilation (fana) remains spiritually incomplete or unfaithful.
