In Chapter 10, Poem 14 of the Mokhtar Nameh, Attar of Nishapur explores the concept of spiritual selflessness and the limitations of human attributes and forms. He argues that on the spiritual path, the seeker must transcend the contemplation of attributes and self-awareness to achieve true selflessness ('bi-khwishtani'). Because the seeker's true essence is ineffable, any attempt to describe their attributes or construct a concrete mental image ('surat') of themselves is futile, as the worldly self is nothing more than a transient outer form.
