Sequence of Sound Transduction

During sound transduction, sound waves are funneled into the auditory canal and cause vibrations of the eardrum. These vibrations move the ossicles, leading the stapes to press against the oval window of the cochlea. This action causes fluid inside the cochlea to move, enlarging hair cells embedded in the basilar membrane, which then send neural impulses to the brain via the auditory nerve.
