Serotonin Dysfunction as a Biological Factor in Suicide

Brain chemistry is considered a potential contributing factor to suicide. Neurological studies have established a link between suicidal behavior and disruptions in the functioning of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Evidence shows that low serotonin levels can predict future suicide attempts and have been observed in post-mortem analyses of individuals who have died by suicide.
