Shabestari's Doctrine of the Cycles of Prophethood and Saintship in Golshan-e Raz
In Section 22 of Mahmud Shabestari's Golshan-e Raz (The Rose Garden of Mystery), the temporal and spiritual continuity of divine guidance is explored through the concepts of Prophethood (Nubuwwat) and Saintship (Wilayat). Shabestari asserts that the cycle of Prophethood originated with Adam and reached its ultimate perfection and conclusion with the Seal of the Prophets (Muhammad). Following the closure of the prophetic cycle, the cycle of Saintship commenced, described metaphorically as a point tracing a new circle. The saints (Awliya) are depicted as parts of a greater whole, which is the universal reality of the Prophet. Through their complete spiritual connection to him, the saints act as the continuous manifestation of his universal mercy and vicegerency in the world.
