Significance of Trade-Adjusted Energy Use in Sweden's Data

In Figure 2.24, the trade-adjusted energy use for Sweden is consistently higher than its domestic energy use, although both are decreasing. This gap suggests that Sweden outsources a portion of its energy-intensive production by importing goods. The fact that the trade-adjusted figure is also declining indicates that the decoupling is not solely due to offshoring energy use, but also involves genuine improvements in efficiency and changes in consumption patterns.
