Simple Diffusion

Larger molecules that cannot pass the membrane from passive diffusion require channels to help them move. This occurs through facilitated diffusion.

Facilitated Diffusion

Osmosis is the passive diffusion of water. Water passes the membrane to where there is a lower concentration of water. This does not require energy. Osmosis can causes stress and pressure on cells depending on the environment.
