Simplifying Assumptions for Aggregating Economic Activity

To analyze an entire economy, models employ several simplifying assumptions. These include aggregating all diverse goods and services into a single, standardized 'unit of output' that all firms produce and all households buy. Furthermore, differences between the types of work people do and the products they produce are ignored. The model also simplifies the labor force by excluding individuals who are self-employed or not actively seeking work.
