Single-Unit Recording in Vision Research

Single-unit recording is a neurophysiological technique used to measure the electrical activity of an individual neuron. Hubel and Wiesel extensively used this method in their studies of the visual system, inserting microelectrodes into the brains of animals like cats and monkeys to identify the specific visual stimuli that would cause a single cell to fire.
