Slavery as a Driver of the Industrial Revolution in the 'Moral Bankruptcy' View

Within the 'moral bankruptcy' explanation for Western economic success, slavery is viewed as a foundational driver of industrialization. This perspective argues that the system of enslaved labor fueled the Industrial Revolution in two critical ways. First, it produced immense quantities of cheap raw materials, such as cotton and sugar, which significantly lowered production costs for European industries. Second, the vast profits generated from the slave trade and the sale of these goods provided essential capital that was reinvested into new factories and technologies.
