The is a bidirectional positive relationships between self esteem and social relationship satisfaction. Higher self esteem is linked with higher relationships satisfaction and higher levels of relationship satisfaction is linked to higher self esteem. It has been shown that the influence of social relationship satisfaction on self esteem is greater than the effect self esteem has on relationship satisfaction.

It has been demonstrated that self esteem is influenced by social relationships but that self esteem also has effects on one's relationship domain. This concept is reciprocal in all stages of development and demonstrates a positive feedback loop.

Research indicates that socio -cognitive information can impact how individuals evaluate themselves, affecting self regulation processes. Furthermore, it is indicated that other's confidence impacts ones' own perceived confidence.
