Spiritual Helplessness and Loss of Agency in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 27, Poem 31)

In Chapter 27, Poem 31 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet explores the central Sufi theme of spiritual helplessness (فروماندگی - furumandagi) on the divine path. The quatrain illustrates that as the seeker (the heart) advances, it realizes it possesses no personal agency or control (تصرف - tasarruf). Because the magnitude of the divine presence demands absolute humility and surrender, the seeker's ultimate realization is one of profound incapacity, seeing nothing but their own helplessness.
