In Chapter 29, Poem 18 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet articulates the paradoxical nature of spiritual perception and the overwhelming reality of the Divine presence. The first couplet establishes that true sight or understanding is impossible without the Divine 'face' (presence) and 'shadow' (grace or guidance). However, the second couplet introduces a profound mystical paradox: when the seeker actually experiences this intimacy ('with You for a single moment'), the sheer intensity of the Divine presence completely blinds them to everything else. In this wondrous state of bewilderment, the seeker loses all awareness of their own identity ('neither with oneself') and the phenomenal world ('nor with another').
