Standard Circuit Details for a Level 2 EV Charger

A typical Level 2 EV charger needs its own 240 V branch circuit from the panel to the charger location, usually sized at 40 A or 50 A depending on the equipment. For a 50 A circuit, 6 AWG copper is commonly used; for a 40 A circuit, 8 AWG copper is commonly used, following NEC ampacity guidance. A customer-facing proposal should state the circuit amperage, the conductor size, and the approximate cable run so the base price clearly defines the scope of work.
