Standard Form of a Horizontal Hyperbola with Center (0,0)(0, 0)

For a hyperbola centered at the origin, (0,0)(0, 0), if the x2x^2-term is positive, its transverse axis lies on the xx-axis and its branches open left and right. The standard form of this equation is x2a2y2b2=1\frac{x^2}{a^2} - \frac{y^2}{b^2} = 1. The hyperbola has vertices and xx-intercepts at (a,0)(-a, 0) and (a,0)(a, 0), and it has no yy-intercepts.
