Stress/Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy (Broken Heart Syndrome)
Stress cardiomyopathy--also known as apical ballooning syndrome (ABS), takotsubo cardiomyopathy, and broken heart syndrome--is a condition that affects part of the heart in response to high physical or mental stress and extreme emotions, causing symptoms reminiscent of a heart attack including chest pain and shortness of breath. It is most common among older adults, women, and those with a history of mental illness. Although it is often a transient condition, it can sometimes recur or cause issues like low blood pressure, pulmonary edema, arrhythmias, heart failure, and rarely, death
