Structure of Review and Theoretical Articles
Although review and theoretical articles do not include method or results sections—as they do not report new empirical data—they are structured similarly to empirical research reports and adhere to standard APA style. They require a title page, an abstract, references, and any necessary appendices, tables, and figures. The main body must be logically organized, typically containing an opening that establishes the topic's significance, a literature review that synthesizes past research to identify gaps or relationships, and a conclusion that summarizes findings and explores future directions or implications. In a theoretical article, the body extensively details the new theory. Furthermore, authors use varied, appropriate headings to organize the sections and clarify their arguments.
