Sub-theme: Utilizing the Primary Care Setting

  • In the literature, individuals with eating disorders suggested that the early stages of contact with a primary care professional needs to be a ‘positive experience’ and this is greatly influenced by two factors.
  • First, they expected sufficient knowledge of eating disorders and good interpersonal skills among primary care professionals.
  • Second, they expected sensitivity regarding eating disorder ‘control’.
