The Take Good Care intervention has been observed to have positive impacts on alcohol-related knowledge, perceived risk, and frequency of alcohol use among female youth. Fostering an internalized
awareness of the importance of limiting alcohol use for their
chronic illness may be helpful for medically vulnerable adolescents who must maintain lifelong disease management practices and health protecting behaviors.

Impact of Take Good Care Intervention for Alcohol Use Among Youth with Chronic Medical Conditions

Take Good Care is a psychoeducational intervention for alcohol use related to topics that are salient to youth with chronic medical conditions. The intervention consists of a deck of slides that provide information on the effects alcohol can have on various chronic illnesses, and how adolescents can navigate social pressure to drink.

Youth with chronic medical conditions are twice as likely to frequently miss or skip doses of medications, either to avoid mixing the two or lapses in judgment.
