TBI and Affective Symptoms and Disorders

Research has found that patients who have severe TBI are at higher risk of having affective symptoms and affective disorders. For those who are athletes, the risk is lower based on time since they have only been found to have more affective symptoms after receiving a concussion. On the other hand, the military community has a higher likelihood of having affective disorders and for more extended periods after being injured in combat. The two most common disorders found have been Major Depressive Disorder and Anxiety Disorder NOS. These disorders are most likely to develop after having TBI.
