14th Century Contrast: Abundance in Bengal vs. Plague in Europe

A stark contrast in conditions existed between different global regions during the 14th century. Concurrent with Ibn Battuta's observations of great abundance in Bengal, Europe was being devastated by the bubonic plague. This pandemic was catastrophic, causing the death of a quarter or more of the population in many European cities.
