Evaluating 14th Century Global Conditions

A famous 14th-century traveler described a region in Asia as having an unparalleled abundance of provisions. During this same period, Europe was experiencing a catastrophic plague that eliminated more than a quarter of its population. Based on these two concurrent events, construct an argument evaluating the extent to which the world was 'globally connected' in the 14th century.
