In this tale from Jami's Haft Awrang, Abraham (the Friend of God) at first withholds hospitality from a fire-worshipping elder unless the man embraces faith. God reproaches Abraham for making sustenance conditional, reminding him that He Himself has nourished this unbeliever for a lifetime without demanding belief in return. Chastened, Abraham calls the elder back to his table of generosity. Moved by the discovery that even a stranger to the faith is honored by boundless divine grace, the elder abandons his fire-temple and embraces Islam.

The allegory teaches that divine mercy and provision (رزق) are unconditional, and that authentic human generosity should mirror this divine grace rather than making itself contingent on the recipient's creed. It reframes the encounter with the unbeliever as an occasion for imitation of God's open-handedness, and presents unconditioned kindness itself as the means by which the heart is drawn toward faith.
