The Allegory of Sultan Mahmud and the Old Woman in Mosibat Nameh

In this tale from Attar's Mosibat Nameh, Sultan Mahmud becomes separated from his army and encounters an old woman milking a cow. Despite her meager possessions, she generously offers to sacrifice her only cow to host him. Deeply moved by her sincere hospitality, Mahmud assists her in milking the cow, and a miraculous abundance of milk flows. This allegory highlights the spiritual value of pure intentions and selfless generosity, illustrating how true nobility and spiritual wealth are often found in the humble rather than the worldly powerful.
