نام نیکو و زشت از من و تست 
کار ایزد نکو بود بدرست

زانکه اول خود او سرشت گلت
کی شود عقل تو بدو مدرک 
چه نماید ترا به جز بد و شک
هرچه ز ایزد بود همه نیکوست 
هرچه از تست سر به سر آهوست

Someone showed a gem to a blind man,
A whimsical, desire-driven person,
Asking, 'How much do you want for this bead?'
He replied, 'A round loaf of bread and two fish.'
If one does not recognize it, why are you angry?
Rubies and pearls are only known through the gem of the eye.
Since God did not grant this gem [of sight],
Take this jewel away and do not talk nonsense.
If you do not want an ass to laugh at you,
Take the jewel to a jeweler.
The hand of the jeweler knows better
When he runs the sole of his foot over the shell.
You know well that in the space of eternity without beginning,
The hand of creation of God, the Almighty and Majestic,
If He wrote an alphabet from His ledger,
None can turn away from it.
God's command in every craft has made
A potentiality pregnant with an actuality,
So that when the path of the womb opens,
The bearers give birth to what was sown.
He whose command is obeyed by non-existence,
How could disobedience arise in existence against Him?
A single command made everyone awake;
All entered the circle.
Whatever the master wrote and taught,
The child in the school can read only that.
Intellect became the pen, the soul became the scroll,
Matter became the form-receiver, and the body became the forms.
He said to Love: 'Fear none but Me.'
He said to Intellect: 'Know thyself.'
Intellect is forever the subject of Love;
Sacrificing one's life is the zeal of Love.
He said to Love: 'Rule as a king.'
He said to Nature: 'Manage the household.'
From toil make elements mockers,
Then obtain the Water of Life,
So that when speech derives substance from it,
It may stake it all on the path of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit returns to the soul,
When the soul becomes pure and devoted like the intellect.
Likewise, from the beginning of the elements,
Its way goes until the end of the soul.
The return of all epochs is to Him;
