The Allegory of the Dervish and the Starry Sky in Asrar Nameh

In Section 6 of Attar's Asrar Nameh, the poet tells the story of a dervish who gazes at the brilliantly starry night sky. Captivated by its immense beauty, the dervish reflects that if the 'roof' of the worldly 'prison' (the material world) is so breathtakingly magnificent, then the divine 'garden' (paradise or the spiritual realm) must be unimaginably glorious. Attar uses this allegory to illustrate that the awe-inspiring beauty of the physical cosmos is merely a faint reflection of ultimate divine perfection, contrasting the limitations of earthly existence with the boundless splendor of the unseen world.
