The Allegory of the Ice Seller and the Abode of Delusion in Hadiqat al-Haqiqah
In Section 5 of the Hadiqat al-Haqiqah, Sanai uses the allegory of an ice seller in Nishabur during the peak of summer (Tamuz) to depict the fleeting nature of human existence. The ice represents a person's limited life span and capital on earth, which continuously melts away under the sun of time regardless of whether one actively utilizes it or wastes it on worldly illusions (the 'Abode of Delusion'). Sanai emphasizes that those who fail to invest their time in spiritual growth and moral rectitude are like the impoverished merchant who watches his entire capital dissolve into nothingness, leaving him with profound regret and empty hands at the end of his life.
