This concept examines the allegory of the Kurd and the gourd from Jami's Haft Awrang. In this tale, a Kurd enters a crowded city and, fearing that he might lose his identity among the crowd, ties a gourd to his leg as a marker to recognize himself. This narrative serves as a satirical allegory on the superficiality of human self-identity and the reliance on external, material indicators to define the self. Similar to Attar's earlier story in Mosibat Nameh, it highlights the absurdity of defining one's internal essence through physical objects, warning that such dependencies ultimately lead to existential confusion.
