This allegory from Attar's Mosibat Nameh tells the story of a barefoot and ragged madman who, on the day of Eid, observes people dressed in fine new clothes and desires the same. He retreats to a ruin and prays to God, asking for a shirt, a turban, and shoes as his Eid gift. He argues that since God adorned the rest of humanity for the festival, He should provide for him as well.
