The Allegory of the Sick Miser in Asrar Nameh
In Section 15 of Attar's Asrar Nameh, a parable recounts the story of an extremely wealthy miser who falls gravely ill. While he lies on his deathbed, a companion attempts to use his sealed bottle of rose water to revive him. However, the miser cries out in distress, forbidding them from breaking the clay seal on the bottle, preferring to suffer and die rather than consume his hoarded wealth. This allegory illustrates the absurdity of greed and material attachment, demonstrating how avarice spiritually blinds individuals and renders their possessions useless when they need them most.
