In this tale from Jami's Haft Awrang, a turtle (کشف) binds itself in deep friendship with two ducks (بط) beside a riverbank. When the ducks resolve to travel and migrate, the turtle cannot endure the pain of separation, so the companions devise a plan: the turtle grips a stick in its mouth while each duck carries an end aloft, on the strict condition that it stay silent throughout the flight. As they soar high, onlookers below marvel at the wondrous sight, and the turtle, provoked to reply to their remarks, opens its mouth and plunges from the heights of the sky to the earth. The allegory warns against the destructive power of ill-timed, uncontrolled speech and praises the discipline of guarding one's tongue: a single careless word spoken out of place can undo one's fortune and bring ruin from the greatest heights.
