ندارد هیچ، ازان کارش نهفست
چنین مردی قوی جان عزیزش 
نمی بینم درین ره هیچ چیزش
جز این سنگی که بر گورش نهادند 
نصیبی از همه کونش ندادند
بدو گفتند روشن کن تو ما را 
چنان کین راز گردد آشکارا
چنین گفت او که این مردیست خفته 
بترک دنیی و عقبی گرفته
نه دنیا دارد و نه آخرت نیز 
که او بودست خواهان دگر چیز
ولی چه سود کان چیزیست کز عز 
بکس نرسید و نرسد نیز هرگز
پس او گر راستی ور پیچ دارد 
همه از دست داده هیچ دارد
جهانی را که چندین ضر و نفعست 
ببین تا حد او از خفض و رفعست
بروز این جمله در چشمت نهد راست 
شبت در خشم گرداند کم و کاست
بینداز این جهان پیچ بر پیچ 
چو بر خوان جهانی هیچ بر هیچ
تو این بنهادن و برداشتن بین 
ز هیچی این همه پنداشتن بین
طریقت چیست نقد جان فکندن 
که خود را در غلط نتوان فکندن
چو چشمت نیست دایم در غلط باش 
که نقش راه زن آمد ز نقاش
اگرچه درد بی اندازه هستست 
بکلی کی دهد معشوق دستست
که تا عاشق بود پیوسته سوزان 
وزو پیوسته معشوقش فروزان
همه کس را چو در خوردست معشوق 
بکلی کی رسد هرگز بمخلوق
نباشد آگهی در خورد ما را 
ز شوق او بماند درد مارا
توئی عاشق ترا به دل که سوزد 
تو دل می سوز تا او می فروزد
اگر داری سر این گر نداری 
جز این ره هیچ ره دیگر نداری
درو معدوم شو ای گشته موجود 
تو واو در نمی گنجد چه مقصود

## English translation
A distraught man was walking at dawn,
He saw the grave of a great man on the path.
Many fine stones were laid upon one another,
A strong, firm inscription was placed on it.
When he stood there for a good while,
He sent his heart before his soul.
Thus he said: 'This person who has fallen asleep,
Has nothing; thus his affair is hidden.
Such a strong man, his dear soul,
I do not see anything of his on this path,
Except for this stone they have placed on his grave;
They gave him no share from all of existence.'
They said to him: 'Enlighten us,
So that this secret becomes clear.'
Thus he said: 'This is a sleeping man,
Who has abandoned the world and the hereafter.
He has neither the world nor the hereafter either,
For he was seeking something else.
But what is the use? For that is something that, out of glory,
Has reached no one and will never reach anyone.
So whether he has straightness or crookedness,
He has given up everything and possesses nothing.
A world that has so much harm and benefit,
Look at its limits of abasement and elevation.
By day it sets all this straight in your eyes,
At night in anger it turns it to lack and loss.
Throw away this twisted upon twisted world,
Since upon the table of the world is nothing upon nothing.
Look at this laying down and picking up of yours,
Look at all this assuming from nothingness!
What is the spiritual path? Throwing away the coin of the soul,
So that one cannot throw oneself into error.
Since you lack vision, always be in error,
For the image of the highwayman comes from the painter.
Although there is boundless pain,
How can the Beloved ever be fully grasped?
So that the lover is continuously burning,
And from him, his Beloved is continuously shining.
Since the Beloved is worthy of all,
How can He ever fully reach a creature?
We do not have the awareness fitting for us;
From the longing for Him, our pain remains.
You are the lover, a burning heart is better for you;
Burn your heart so that He may shine.
If you have the desire for this, and even if you do not,
You have no other path except this path.
Become non-existent in Him, O you who have become existent!
You and He do not fit together, what is the goal?'
