The Cosmos as Dewdrops in the Divine Ocean in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Poem 62)
In Poem 62 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet metaphorically reduces the entirety of creation—both the material and spiritual realms ('the two worlds')—to the insignificance of two dewdrops within the boundless Divine Ocean. The poem further illustrates the mystical concept of the microcosm reflecting the macrocosm; by attaining spiritual presence and focusing on the subtle insight of the 'ocean-dweller' (a spiritually realized state or divine guide), the seeker's own limited self (their 'circle') expands to encompass the perception of both worlds.
