According to Hesiod the Cyclopes are the ones who created and presented to Zeus the lightning bolt we are accustomed to seeing. Brontes (Thunder), Steropes (Lightning), and Arges (Bright); they were mighty and skillful and had only one eye in the center of their foreheads, and are likened to gods in most respects (Theogony, 126-156)
