The 45-Degree Line in the Environmental Dynamics Model

In an environmental dynamics model, such as the one for Arctic sea ice shown in Figure 8.27, the 45-degree line represents a state of no change. Any point along this line indicates that the extent of the environmental feature (e.g., sea ice) in the next period is identical to its extent in the current period, signifying a static or unchanging environmental equilibrium.
