In Chapter 36, Poem 18 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the standard tropes of the eyelash-arrow (tir-e mozheh) and eyebrow-bow (kaman-e abru) are subverted through a direct dialogue. When the lover praises these martial features, the beloved's eye responds with a warning. By stating 'this bow is not for your arm' (in kaman be bazu-ye to nist), the beloved highlights the lover's inherent weakness and inability to control, resist, or escape the overwhelming power of love. The lover is thus instructed to endure the arrows of the beloved's gaze rather than attempting to flee from a force they have no capacity to match.
