Considering the high societal demand for a COVID-19 vaccine, there is a great likelihood that the expectations of the patients' need for an effective treatment will increase; this will have a dramatic psychological effect on the patient's response to trial vaccines. Psychologically speaking, a greater societal demand for a treatment for COVID-19, which increases the expectations of the patient, leads to a great likelihood for a high placebo response rate.

The consequences of the vaccine recipients' high expectations

The placebo effect can result in full recovery of the a medical condition due to the brain signaling the body to get better. If the placebo effect causes recovery within COVID-19 patients, expensive and time consuming vaccines could only be one of the treatments used against the virus. The placebo vaccine which holds no monetary or time strain can then be utilized as a more beneficial alternative.
