The Encompassing Bird of the Heart in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 34, Poem 11)
In Chapter 34, Poem 11 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the 'bird of the heart' (مرغ دل) is portrayed not as a restless seeker that must journey outward, but as a majestic entity that already encompasses the entirety of existence. By stating that the heart holds 'both worlds beneath its wing,' the poem emphasizes the Sufi concept that the human spiritual center is a microcosm containing the macrocosm. Therefore, the heart need not leave its 'nest' or 'veil,' as it possesses ultimate divine glory and already contains everything it might seek in the external universe.
